Bets & payouts

Every bet in the game, with what it pays and how it resolves. These figures come from the same rules tables the apps use, so what you read here is what the table pays.

Come-out roll: 7 wins, nothing loses. Points: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

There is no dark side on a crapless table: no don't pass, no don't come, no lay bets. How crapless differs →

Line bets

BetPaysHouse edgeHow it works
Pass Line1:15.38%Wins outright on a 7 on the come-out. Nothing loses on the come-out: every other total, including 2, 3, 11 and 12, becomes the point. From there the bet wins if the point repeats before a 7.The higher edge is the price of never crapping out: those free come-out rolls become hard points.
Come1:15.38%A pass line bet made after the point is set, following the same crapless come-out rules. The total it lands on becomes that bet's private point.

Common questions

What is the best bet in craps?
The odds bet behind the pass line, which pays true odds and carries no house edge at all, the only wager on the table where the house has no advantage. Of the bets that do carry an edge, the pass line at 1.41% and don't pass at 1.36% are the cheapest, followed by placing the 6 or 8 at 1.52%.
What is the worst bet in craps?
Any seven, at a 16.67% house edge. The rest of the centre of the table is not far behind: craps 2 and craps 12 cost 13.89%, and the hardways run 9.09% on the 6 and 8 and 11.11% on the 4 and 10.
What is the house edge on the field bet?
5.56% when the 12 pays double, which is the common paytable and the default in these games. If the table pays triple on the 12 it drops to 2.78%. The field looks generous because it covers seven numbers, but the four it misses (5, 6, 7 and 8) are the most frequent totals.
Should I buy or place the 4 and 10?
Buy them. Placing the 4 or 10 pays 9:5 for a 6.67% edge, while buying pays true 2:1 for a 5% commission and costs 1.67% when the vig is charged only on a win. The 6 and 8 are the exception: place those, at 1.52% against 2.27% to buy.
Why is the crapless craps pass line worse than regular craps?
Because nothing loses on the come-out, the come-out rolls that used to win or lose outright become points instead, and 2, 3, 11 and 12 are the hardest numbers on the table to repeat. That pushes the pass line from 1.41% in standard craps to 5.38% in crapless. The compensation is the odds: a point of 2 or 12 pays 6:1 at true odds.
How much do the crapless numbers pay?
Placing the 2 or 12 pays 11:2 for a 7.14% edge and the 3 or 11 pays 11:4 for 6.25%. Buying them is much cheaper: true odds of 6:1 and 3:1 for a 5% commission on a win, which works out to 0.71% and 1.25%.

A note on house edge

Every figure above is the expected loss per dollar wagered, per bet resolved, computed from the payouts this game actually uses, so place, buy and lay can be compared on one axis.

If you cross-check our buy and lay numbers against a published chart and they look too good, this is why: these tables charge the 5% commission only when the bet wins, which is the player-friendly convention. Charts that assume the vig is taken up front put lay 4 at 2.44% rather than 1.67%, and every buy at a flat 4.76%. Some charts also quote a per-roll rather than a per-bet figure, which divides everything by how often the bet resolves.

Every bet carries an edge except the odds, which pay true odds and are the only wager on the table the house has no advantage on. No betting system changes any of these numbers. These games are simulators for entertainment and practice, not a strategy for winning money in a casino.
